Howard Brockman, LCSW

I have developed Dynamic Energetic Healing® which is an incredibly powerful and effective psychospiritual approach for treating trauma. One can safely say that by and large, when an individual is repeatedly frustrated with efforts to achieve success in any area of life or alleviate chronic pain and suffering, the cause is undiagnosed post-traumatic stress.  When the consequences of trauma persist longer than six months, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) becomes the appropriate diagnosis.

Trauma changes the brain and therefore simultaneously changes the body. This results in what is called dysregulation of the biochemistry of the brain and hormones throughout the body. This is because when a traumatized individual experiences a “fight or flight” response to a traumatic situation, stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol flood through that individual's nervous system and physical body and frequently remain at elevated levels far longer than is normal.

What can help someone who's experiencing these PTSD symptoms?  The most consistent and powerful approach  I have discovered includes a psychospiritual orientation including energy psychology interventions, imagery and guided visualization along with hypnotic relaxation exercises.  A traumatized brain automatically trains its focus away from language and verbal content, orienting instead to nonverbal potential danger cues—body movements, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. Only when sufficiently calmed can attention be focused on ideas and the actual meaning of words.

This is the reason that traditional talk therapy that is based on a strictly cognitive, problem-solving approach typically cannot impact a person who is suffering from these trauma symptoms. The primitive brain and midbrain cannot process a cognitive approach to resolving issues such as dissociation, flashbacks and insomnia.

Sufferers of acute and post-traumatic stress experience exaggerated sensitivity and heightened reactivity in the parts of the brain that process emotions, sensations, and images. This is especially true in the part of the brain called the amygdala (the storehouse of emotional memory, sometimes called the brain’s “fear center”).

Additionally, Dynamic Energetic Healing® (with its primary emphasis on innovative energy-based interventions) utilizes strategies that mostly bypass the rational intellect “left brain” of the client, thus making a profound impact to create rapid changes as the whole brain is directly targeted.

My Focus

I help clients stuck with undiagnosed PTSD (and diagnosed PTSD), even though they have already been diagnosed with depression and anxiety as the presenting symptoms. Additionally, I help caregivers and helpers dealing with compassion fatigue and secondary traumatization, especially with boundary work.

Groups I Work With

Intractable PTSD and related symptoms; releasing psychotoxic energy from encounters with abusers and control freaks; teach imagery-based therapies; help caregivers and helpers deal with burnout and compassion fatigue with setting boundaries with difficult people.
