I believe that everyone has a natural urge to grow and improve their lives, and I focus on each person’s strengths to help them work toward their personal goals. I work collaboratively with individuals, and their families when desired, to build on these strengths and to contribute my knowledge and skills. My approach to therapy includes knowledge of childhood and adolescent behavioral issues and positive parenting as well as techniques from behavioral, cognitive, solution-focused, experiential and play therapy. My goal is to help people move toward more positive ways of addressing their challenges, increase their understanding of themselves, improve their relationships, and find a deeper sense of well-being. I strive to create an atmosphere of safety, trust and hope and believe that seeking help is a sign of courage and health. I specialize in working with gifted children and youth as well as coaching parents in support of their gifted children. I have over 10 years of direct experience with gifted children and teens. I recognize that gifted children are complex, exciting, and intense, and sometimes need help understanding their social and emotional experiences. I also understand that gifted children and youth (and their parents) don’t have all the answers, as sometimes expected, and often need support and new skills to successfully navigate experiences unique to their lives as gifted people.
I have helped children, adolescents, and adults in many ways including strengthening relationships, reducing depression and anxiety, healing from traumatic experiences, managing emotions more effectively, and building self-esteem. I have also coached parents to improve communication and strengthen relationships with their children and teens, to assist their children in overcoming academic underachievement, and to reduce sibling conflicts.
